Sheriff Pope’s Message of the Week: August 9, 2024

This week the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office hosted our annual National Night Out. The turnout for the event was excellent, and hundreds of Lyon County youth attended the event. Over 40 individual groups participated in the event, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is appreciative of all of their efforts! National Night Out allows law enforcement in the area to break down barriers with local youth and the community it serves. The Sheriff’s Office is looking at expanding this event to other areas of Lyon County next year.

The Lyon County Fair and Rodeo begins next week. Inmate work crews and community volunteers have been working diligently to clean up the fairgrounds in preparation. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is taking an active role in participating in this great event. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will have vehicles, including our SWAT vehicle, available on kid’s night for the youth to “climb all over”! The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will also have a booth inside the large metal barn where we will be handing out “swag” and continuing our employee recruitment campaign.

We have had many suggestions regarding our inmate work crews and areas around the County that need help with cleanup. If you are part of a service organization or municipality and need help cleaning up a community area, please reach out. The inmate work crews are available to assist in cleanup projects countywide and will operate in conjunction with any effort.
