Gladys Marie Gummow Johnson ~ Sunrise July 4, 1930 to Sunset May 26, 2024

Gladys Marie Gummow Johnson passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at the Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Fallon, Nevada. She was 93.

Gladys was born in Burley, Cassia, Idaho, the 5th of 9 children born of Chancellor and Elizabeth (Woodall) Gummow. Gladys’s youth was spent in Burley, and she graduated from Burley High School.  Gladys met Robert Ralph Johnson while both were working in Carson City, Nevada.  They were married in Sparks, NV.

Gladys and Bob made their first home in Carson City and in 1961 they moved to Alaska. They returned and settled in Bob’s hometown of Schurz, Nevada in 1977. After the passing of her husband, Gladys chose to remain in Schurz with the friends and the community she loved, and where she instructed our children for almost 30 years.

Gladys was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Gladys is survived by her ten children and niece, Sigrid Kohler, Elizabeth (Wendell) Rigby, Robert (Sandy), Norman (Janice), Deborah Olsen, John (Ginger), George, Sterling, James, Mary (Steve Crane) Johnson, Loren (Tori); her 29 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; her two sisters and one brother, Elaine Gummow Wamsley, John Fred Gummow, and Olive Gummow Phillips; and many nieces and nephews. Gladys’s funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 8th, 2024, at the Schurz Tribal Gym. The burial will be in the Schurz Cemetery. The family will gather at the gym beginning at 9:00 am on that Saturday, prior to the service.
