The following communication is from Morgan Spry who has been a VERY active member of the Mason Valley 4-H Club for the past several years.
My name is Morgan Spry. I am an active member of my local 4-H club in Yerington, Nevada. I’m writing this letter to invite you to the Nevada Junior Livestock Show and Sale in Reno, NV where I will be auctioning off my market turkey. If you don’t want to buy a turkey but still want to support me at the sale you can do an add on. I appreciate your support!
I have been involved in 4-H for six years. This is my last year getting to show at this show and sale as I am aging out of 4-H. The first animal I ever got to show was my dairy goat. I started with her and then I branched out to other animals. I’ve shown dairy goats, pigs, steers, sheep, horses, chickens and turkeys. Out of all those animals my favorites have been my dairy goats and the turkeys. My favorite part of raising the turkeys is getting to teach them how to be good at showmanship and hanging out with them to socialize them. The turkeys’ unique personalities make them my favorite market animal. They never fail to make me laugh. They are very fun to raise. I will miss my turkeys but I know that they were raised correctly and had a good life full of love. As of March 29, 2024, the one I’m selling at NJLS weighs 20 pounds. I expect him to be around 22lbs when he goes to the auction. There is a local person who can process him for 25 dollars. If you purchase him under your business name it is tax deductible. You do not have to be at the sale for a add on or purchasing my bird.
My market turkey has been raised with his siblings and has had the best care possible. The turkeys get fresh feed multiple times a day and always have access to clean, fresh water. They have one bucket for drinking and two shallow ones to put their legs in to cool off on the hot days. They also get free choice alfalfa because it gives them something to do. The alfalfa also gets changed daily. In addition to this, they come out of their large pen daily to walk around the one acre backyard, and have fun searching for bugs. They love to run and find anything fun to eat. My birds have been raised with the best care possible and with lots of love.
I will use the money I make from selling my market turkey to continue my dairy goat breeding program and to help me pay for college. I love showing animals and raising them; it is my passion. I strive to raise the best animals of the highest quality that I can. I am sad this chapter of my life is over but I have learned so much from it and will use the skills and lessons I have learned throughout my life.
I hope you can attend this year’s show and sale. The show is scheduled for May 8-12 at the Reno Livestock Events Center. The auction is on the 11th at 3:15pm. Buyer sign up starts on Friday and ends when the auction starts. During the auction, the buyers are served a late lunch. I would be happy to meet with you or call you to talk with you and give you more information. Thank you in advance for your support.
I have attached a picture of my bird. Thank you for your time and support. It is very appreciated! Message me (on Facebook) for more information.
