County Commissioners Take Next Step Toward a Mound House Community Center, Update on Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Restructure, and Agenda Item Reports

Yerington, Nevada – On Thursday, February 2, 2023, the Lyon County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution to propose the exchange of real property owned by Lyon County located at 158 Garnet Circle, Mound House, for real property owned by Central Lyon County Fire Protection District located at 56 Red Rock Road, Mound House, for the purpose of establishing a Mound House Community Center in the future. The motion to approve the resolution was made by Commissioner Henderson and approved unanimously. A public hearing for the proposed property exchange is scheduled for March 2, 2023.

During the Board meeting, Sheriff Brad Pope provided an update on the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office patrol zone restructure. As a result of the restructure, January 2023 response times significantly improved across the county compared to January 2022. Sheriff Pope noted response times have decreased with fewer patrol deputies than were available in 2022. Lyon County Sheriff’s Office also conducted a scheduled saturation patrol event in Fernley on January 27, 2023 which resulted in over 100 traffic stops and 10 arrests. The goal for saturation events are to increase law enforcement visibility and reduce crime. The next saturation event will be unannounced in the Dayton area.

The Board of County Commissioners meeting also included:

·       Lyon County Human Services reported Yerington Senior Services is offering a Valentine’s Day Dinner fundraiser. Orders must be placed over the phone (775) 463-6550 by Wednesday, February 8, 2023 and will be ready for pickup February 14th from 4:00-5:30PM.

·       Northern Nevada Development Authority (NNDA) Executive Director Jeff Sutich provided an introduction. Sutich reported NNDA has supported bringing 10 new businesses and 541 jobs to Lyon County since 2018.

·       A resolution to terminate the Declaration of Emergency for the January flooding events.

·       The Board approved a notice of award to Aspen Developers Corporation for being the successful bidder on the 10-mile Hill Tank Project in Dayton.
