Reyes Reyes awarded 2022 Jerry Ogolin Memorial Scholarship
First announced at the YHS senior awards night
YERINGTON, Nev. – Every year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley and Night in the Country award a scholarship in memory of a community icon, Jerry Ogolin. The scholarship is awarded to the Yerington High School senior who best matches Jerry Ogolin’s high character and strong morals.
Daniela Reyes Reyes meets that standard to a tee.
Daniela is graduating this year with experience under her belt and a clear vision for her future. Through high school, Daniela participated in medical classes to set her up for a future in the medical field. Having completed her certified nursing assistant course, Daniela’s set to take the test and work as a CNA while attending the University of Nevada.
“I never got the chance to meet Mr. Ogolin, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about him,” Daniela said. “He was so highly respected; I wish I got to know him. I applied for this scholarship because it would be an honor to represent his legacy in my future.”
Daniela was a Yerington High School dance team member, a passion that she turned into service. She began volunteering at Through a Child’s Eyes, teaching kids how to dance, helping them during recitals and doing whatever was needed during events.
“I want to show that everything is possible with a lot of hard work and a determined mind,” Daniela said. “I want to become a role model for all the young girls with big dreams.”
Daniela plans on using the scholarship money to help pay for her books her freshman year and is excited to represent Jerry Ogolin and his legacy in her higher education journey.
