Karen Lynne Howard ~ Had a Smile and Kind Word for Everyone She Encountered in Life

Karen Lynne Howard, 76, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

Karen was born March 2, 1945 in California to Louise and Harvey Pence.  She was the youngest of five children, with 3 brothers and 1 sister.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father (Louise and Harvey), her Brother (Jack) and her Sister (Glenna).

Karen’s remaining surviving family are her two Daughters, Debbie (Kenny) and Susan.  Her 9 Grandchildren, Andrue, Jillian, Matthew, Grant, Morgan, Delaney, Avery, Jackson, and Isaiah.  Her Great Grandchild, Avery.  Her brothers Bruce (Arlene) and Bob.

Karen married Roger Groteguth in 1965 and they moved to Yerington, Nevada.  Yerington was her home.  She loved the valley and the country life.

Karen had a love for all animals that was second to none and she passed this love on to her Daughters.  In her teens, she trained dogs in obedience and showed them to much success.  Later in life, she fulfilled a dream by breeding and raising her own dogs, her Corgis.  She competed in Breed, Obedience and Rally with her girls, Annie, Dixie and Star.

She is best known in Yerington for her dog grooming skills.  She began grooming dogs 52 years ago when her Daughters were young and continued until her retirement in January 2021.

Another big love was her love for horses.  She was always happiest when she was on horseback.  She started riding as a young girl in California and continued throughout her life.  She enjoyed her time riding with the Yerington Saddle-Lites drill team as well as trail riding, and showing.  She also had many happy times trail riding and horse camping with her Daughters.

Karen was a kind, gentle soul.  She had a smile and kind word for everyone she encountered in life.  She enjoyed her final years spending a lot of time with her Daughters, Granddaughter and Great Granddaughter.

Karen’s wishes were to not have a memorial service.  She will be cremated and spread at a location along Highway 88 where she would often drive to and take her dogs walking.

Keep on riding Mom aka Martha, Carla, Grandma and G.G.  You were loved by many and will be missed more than you know.
