County Commission to discuss second bridge in Dayton at February 3 meeting
The Lyon County Board of Commissioners are slated to discuss a second bridge over the Carson River in Dayton. Currently, there is one public access bridge from Highway 50 to Dayton Valley Road. Lyon County Manager Jeff Page explained that there have been numerous discussions and public hearings on a second bridge over the past two decades but there has never been any funding for the project.
Lyon County has seen an increase in traffic on Highway 50 partially due to a 17.7% increase in population in Dayton, a 6.8% increase in population in Silver Springs and Stagecoach, and the opening of the USA Parkway. Residents have voiced concerns over traffic safety on the Highway 50 Corridor and concerns of having one bridge serving a large population of Dayton. The 2020 Master Plan envisions a second bridge in east Dayton with a road network looping around the south end of Dayton.
The Board of Commissioners is being asked to provide staff direction to proceed seeking federal funding, securing easements and right of way, and authority to negotiate with the development community to begin the process of design and eventual construction of the project.
