On Tuesday, August 17th, 2021, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported to Mason Valley residents that, “The smoke we are seeing in the valley’s are from the Calder Fire and the Dixie Fire. There are no current fires in Lyon County and no current evacuations! If you are calling to report this smoke or to question about it or the fires please do not call 911. Please use 911 to report a new fire or if you see or believe you see new smoke or fire. Or if the smoke is causing you a medical emergency.”
***Update*** At 7am on August 18th, 2021 Don Zirbel of Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice wrote: “The third map below shows the comparison between the Caldor Fire and the Tamarack Fire (which remains at 68,637 acres). The darker red edges of the Caldor Fire are thermal readings overnight, giving some idea of the fire growth over the past 12 hours.”
